A lively resort town below a Seljuk castle, with long sandy beaches on either side.
Alanya grew up around a rocky peninsula crowned by a 13th-century Seljuk castle. Below its walls are the harbour, the octagonal Red Tower and the old shipyard, and on either side of the rock run long sandy beaches backed by hotels and promenades.
The town is lively in the evenings, with a busy harbour front and plenty of restaurants. Resort areas stretch along the coast west towards Avsallar and Konaklı and east towards Kestel and Mahmutlar.
The walls wind up the peninsula to the inner citadel, with views over both bays; a cable car runs up from near Damlataş Beach.
The Red Tower, built in 1226, guards the harbour; a short walk along the shore leads to the vaulted Seljuk shipyard cut into the rock.
A long stretch of fine sand on the west side of the castle rock, with clear water and the town's best-known view.
A small cave with dripstone formations right next to the beach, known for its humid, constant-temperature air.
